How PDF Compression Works Here

This tool compresses your PDF by rendering each page as an image, re-encoding it as JPEG at reduced quality, and rebuilding the PDF from these compressed images. This works especially well for scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs.

An Important Trade-off

Because this rasterizes each page into an image, any selectable text becomes part of a flattened image and is no longer selectable, searchable, or copyable. This is the same trade-off used by most compress-PDF tools elsewhere. If your PDF is primarily text and file size is not already a problem, compression provides minimal benefit while costing you selectable text.

When Compression Helps Most

• Scanned documents: photos of paper documents, often the largest and most compressible files.
• PDFs with high-resolution images: presentations or reports with large embedded photos.
• Email attachment limits: shrinking a file to fit under a size cap.

All rendering and compression happens locally in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to any server.
