Lorem ipsum is not gibberish — it is scrambled, altered Latin from a real philosophical work. The source is De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (On the Ends of Good and Evil), written by the Roman statesman and philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero in 45 BC. The original passage, in Book I, Section 32, reads: "Neque porro quisquam est, qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit..." meaning roughly "Nor is there anyone who loves, pursues, or desires pain itself because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances arise in which toil and pain can procure great pleasure."
